When making espresso, every element of the system — from thermal stability to pressure control — contributes to the final cup. 1️⃣ Thermal Stability: The Foundation

Before you even press, the S01B-9BAR ensures that temperature is controlled and stable:

  • Stainless steel piston, coffee tube, and pressure chamber (~2 kg total) act as a large thermal mass.

  • The hot water jacket surrounding the center tube further reduces heat loss.

  • Water is filled to fully preheat the pressure chamber and coffee tube above the puck.

Measured performance:

  • Temperature drop over a 30–40 second extraction is only ~1.5–2 °C.

  • This ensures the coffee puck is immersed in near-constant temperature water throughout the extraction, creating consistent flavor, crema, and body.


2️⃣ Pressure: Emergent and Controllable

Important: Releasing trapped air is not optional — it is a required step in every extraction for consistent results.

  • Lightly tapping the piston after filling water saturates the coffee grounds evenly.
